전체적인 내용은 예수가 예루살렘에 입성해서 십자가에 못박혀 죽기까지의 과정을 록뮤지컬로 보여준다. 1971년에 초연 했을당시에는 기독교인들이 극장 밖에서 시위를 했었다고 하더니 실제로 보고 나니 정말 엄청난 반향을 일으킬만한 설정이구나 라고 생각을 했다. 우선 예수와 12제자들의 모습만 봐도 무슨 날라리 게이집단 같이 옷을 입고있다. 거기에 유다의 존재감이 엄청나게 크다. 유다가 어째서 예수를 고발했는지를 유다의 내면의 갈등을 통해 보여준다....
